Dr Anna Stavdal (Norway)

Dr Anna Stavdal is the current WONCA President and a long-term outspoken advocate for family doctors in her region (Norway).

Anna has, for many years, been active in public debate: a columnist, a speaker and a passionate advocate for family medicine. She has held leading positions in family medicine organisations for 25 years - at the national Norwegian level, the Nordic and European levels.

During her free time, she likes to spend time in nature, jogging early in the morning or spending time with books, at the theatre or listening to music.

Professor Sir Michael Marmot (UK)

Professor Sir Michael Marmot is Professor of Epidemiology at University College London, Director of the UCL Institute of Health Equity, and Past President of the World Medical Association.

He holds the Harvard Lown Professorship for 2014-2017 and is the recipient of the Prince Mahidol Award for Public Health 2015. He has been awarded honorary doctorates from 18 universities. In 2021 Professor Marmot received BMJ's Outstanding Contribution to Health award. He has led research groups on health inequalities for over 40 years and in 2015 he was awarded the Prince Mahidol Award for his services to Public Health.

Professor Martin Marshall (UK)

Martin Marshall is a GP in Newham East London and Professor of Healthcare Improvement at UCL, Programme Director for Primary Care at UCLP Partners. 

He leads Improvement Science London, an initiative to promote and embed the science of improvement across the health service and academic sectors. He is immediate past Vice-Chair (External Affairs) of the RCGP

Dr Farzana Hussain (UK)

Dr Farzana Hussain lives and works in Newham, East London. She also holds a board director role for the local GP federation and champions quality improvement in General Practice.

She has been a GP principal at The Project Surgery for 20 years and looks after a list of 5000 patients. She is also a mum of two teenagers. She is a Primary Care Network Clinical Director for Newham Central 1. Dr Hussain has had previous national roles as Co-Chair of the National Primary Care Network at NHS Confederation and has been on the board of the National Association of Primary Care. In 2019 she was awarded GP of the Year. Her philosophy as a GP is to be able to connect and comfort even when we can’t cure.

Dr Matt Sawyer (UK)

Dr Matt Sawyer is a GP of over 17 years in the North East of England. Additionally, he run a sustainability consultancy – SEE Sustainability – working to improve human and planetary health.

He covers sustainability issues facing healthcare including understanding their carbon emissions footprint and helping to produce roadmaps and action plans to meet the NHS net zero ambition. He produced an online carbon footprint calculator for non-clinical emissions from General Practice https://www.gpcarbon.org/#/

He has worked with the Center for Sustainable Healthcare and Greener Practice to deliver a Green Plan for Primary Care for South East London ICS. He delivers online Carbon Literacy Project accredited carbon literacy courses for primary and secondary care staff.

He has produced a Decarbonisation Guide for general practices - https://seesustainability.co.uk/low-carbon-plan covering decarbonising energy and estates within primary care along with transport, procurement and the wider supply chain. This is being made available to a wider group of practices via the RCGP

He provides a range of materials, documents, reports for carbon footprints from elsewhere, education resources and videos, which are available at https://seesustainability.co.uk/resources

He has presented to a variety of audiences on topics such as 'What GP partners need to know about NHS Net Zero ambitions & climate action' and 'Should primary care have its own green plan within the ICS Green Plan?' and written articles such as ‘How to ‘green’ your practice without costing the earth’ in Pulse Intelligence. Dr Iona Heath (UK)

Inner city general practitioner in Kentish Town in London (1975-2010); now retired. Past President of the UK Royal College of General Practitioners (2009-2012).

Iona Heath has written regularly for the British Medical Journal and has contributed essays to many other medical journals across the world. She has been particularly interested to explore the nature of general practice, the importance of medical generalism, issues of justice and liberty in relation to health care, the corrosive influence of the medical industrial complex and the commercialisation of medicine, and the challenges posed by disease-mongering, the care of the dying, and violence within families.

DR ANDREE ROCHFORT (IRELAND)

Dr Andrée Rochfort is a GP/Family Doctor in Wexford in the south east of Ireland, and is the  President of EQuiP, the WONCA Europe network for Quality and Safety in Family Medicine.

She is a staff member of the Irish College of General Practitioners, as Director for Quality Improvement and Doctors Health in Practice Programme, and a founding member of the ICGP Sustainability Working Group. She is passionate about safety and quality of care for patients and physicians in primary care and its interfaces, patient self-management, lifestyle medicine, sustainable healthcare and planetary health.

Professor Victoria Tkachenko (Ukraine)

Professor of Department of Family Medicine at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, the first Doctor of Medical Science in field of General Practice – Family Medicine in Ukraine.

A senior lecturer, a researcher, a general practitioner, Life Direct Member of WONCA, European leader of WWPWFM, active member of WONCA groups (EURACT, EGPRN, EURIPA, EQuiP),  WHO National trainer and MOH National expert in primary care, author and co-author of over 400 scientific publications in national and foreign editions on the variety of topics of family medicine. Dr Oge Ilozue (Uk)

Dr Ilozue is a GP Partner & Trainer based in North Central London working with her practice since her completing her GP training 10 years ago.

She is also chair of the Local Medical Committee and has been a Senior Clinical advisor with NHSE&I - London region Covid-19 vaccination programme for the past year. Dr Ilozue is a member of the Medical association of Nigerians across the UK (MANSAG) and is currently serving as their welfare secretary.

Dr  Aurore GIRARD (Belgium)

I work as GP from 2009 in Brussels, Belgium.

I’m vice-president and research departement manager in the Belgian french speaking scientific society (SSMG).

Prof Shlomo Vinker (ISRAEL)

·         Full Professor in Family Medicine, Vice Dean for community teaching, and former Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv.

58 years old, married with four children, living in Ashdod (A port and recreation city on the Mediterranean coast).

An active family physician, working in an urban clinic.

Published more than 220 research papers in peer reviewed medical journals cited in PubMed.

WONCA EUROPE - Member at large(2016-2019), President Elect(2019-2021), President(2021-)

EGPRN - Executive board member (2015-2022), and chair of the educational committee (2018-2022).

IAFP (The Israeli Association of Family Physicians) – Chairman (2009-2018), honorary treasurer (2018-). As chairman I led a change in the residency program, shifting most of the residency time outside the hospital wards to family medicine and ambulatory setting. Under my leadership, IAFP founded a plan for research grants, which gave a long the years hundreds of thousands of dollars to encourage research in family medicine. I founded an open Wiki website with high quality medical information, having now more than 6,600 articles and millions of annual entries.

Leumit Health Services - Chief Medical Officer (2015-) of a nationwide healthcare organization serving about 730,000 members.

Established a research institute in Leumit and chairing it from 2018 aiming to enhance research capacity in family medicine and primary care. We published more than 20 COVID-19 related publications. One of them “Low plasma 25(OH) vitamin D level is associated with increased risk of COVID-19 infection: an Israeli population-based study” had been cited more than 350 times since its publication.

Dr Marina Jotic Ivanovic (Bosnia&Herzegovina)

Dr Marina Jotic Ivanovic is a GP/family medicine doctor. She works in the Public Primary Health Care Center Doboj, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

She is the VdGM council member representing Bosnia and Herzegovina, serving also as National Exchange Coordinator. She is an active member of the VdGM Family Violence SIG and lead of newly-set-up VdGM lifestyle medicine SIG. Family medicine is a field she loves because it gives the opportunity to interact with people, get to know their lives and in that aspect try to give the best possible health care. She is very passionate about health promotion and disease prevention activities because they are the cornerstone of keeping a healthy lifestyle and health overall. Womens health is a topic she is also passionate about, so she leads activities for breast cancer awareness in her HC.

Dr Julien Artigny (France/Martinique)

Dr Julien Artigny is a young french GP/family medicine doctor, former member of VdGM Executive board as Policy Officer.

He is still involved in WONCA as Co-Lead of the LGBTQ Health Special Interest Group of WONCA World and member of Organizational Equity Committee of WONCA World.

Dr Nick Mamo (Malta)

Dr Nick Mamo is a Maltese GP/family medicine doctor, and current president of VdGM, the European Young Doctors’ Movement.

Nick believes in primary care as an essential part of universal healthcare, and believes that multidisciplinary team work is a big part of this. In this respect he is particularly interested in underserved populations, and the importance and potential impacts of social medicine. Nick is currently working on a research project into Collaborative Care Networks in Functional Disorders in the Netherlands after working in the UK for a few years.
