RCGP Conference Bursary Scheme

A Call for Applications 

The Royal College of General Practitioners is pleased to announce a call for applications for bursaries to support attendance at the 27th WONCA Europe / RCGP Annual Conference to be held on 28 June – 1 July 2022 at ExCel, London, UK (www.woncaeurope2022.org)

The RCGP Conference Bursary Scheme is aimed at encouraging and supporting medical students and GP/family medicine trainees from the UK and Europe to attend the above conference. Successful applicants will be offered free registration for the VdGM Pre-conference and the main Conference. If a successful applicant has already registered and paid their registration fee, they will receive a reimbursement. 

Eligibility requirements:

  • To be a medical student or a trainee in General Practice / Family Medicine;
  •  To be a resident in the UK or Europe (as defined by WONCA);
  •  To be enrolled as an undergraduate medical student in a medical school, university or in a specialist training programme in General Practice / Family Medicine in a UK or Europe (as defined by WONCA);
  •  To be a registered delegate of the 27th WONCA Europe / RCGP Annual Conference and the VdGM Pre-conference, or to intend to register for both events;
  • To be available and committed to attend as a face-to-face delegate both the VdGM Pre-conference on 27-28 June 2022 and the 27th WONCA Europe / RCGP Annual Conference on 28 June – 1 July 2022. 

The Eric Gambrill Award

In addition, the Royal College of General Practitioners is also pleased to announce a separate award in memory of Dr Eric Gambrill. The Eric Gambrill Award will offer six £1,000 bursaries to successful applicants to cover their costs of travel and attendance at the 27th WONCA Europe / RCGP Annual Conference. 

The Eric Gambrill Award for this conference is aimed at encouraging and supporting doctors from Africa, the Ukraine and South Asia to attend the 27th WONCA Europe / RCGP Annual Conference. Two awards will be given to successful applicants from Africa, two awards will be given to successful applicants from South Asia, and two awards will be given to successful applicants from the Ukraine or of Ukrainian origin. 

Successful applicants will be offered free registration for the main Conference. If a successful applicant has already registered and paid their registration fee, they will receive a reimbursement. The successful applicants will be able to claim the remainder of their bursary following their attendance at the conference. Further details on how to claim will be sent to the successful applicants directly. The total Eric Gambrill award will include the conference registration fee and will not exceed £1,000 in total for each successful applicant. 

Eligibility requirements for The Eric Gambrill Award:

  • To be a qualified General Practitioner / Family Doctor and in active clinical practice;
  • To be a resident in Africa or South Asia (as defined by WONCA), or a resident in the Ukraine or a Ukrainian doctor currently living and working outside the Ukraine;
  • To be a registered delegate of the 27th WONCA Europe / RCGP Annual Conference, or to intend to register for the conference;
  • To be available and committed to attend as a face-to-face delegate the 27th WONCA Europe / RCGP Annual Conference on 28 June – 1 July 2022.

To apply, please state the award you are applying for in the subject line of your email and send us your up-to-date CV and a statement no longer than 500 words explaining why you are interested in attending this conference and how you will use the learnings you gain from it in your future training and professional work.

Deadline for applications: 8am London time, 31 May 2022. 

All applications will be assessed by an RCGP Selection Panel for their merits, and all applicants will be informed of the outcome in the week of 6 June 2022.
